Day 1 - Arrive Marrakech. Transfer to Riad Africa
On arrival in Marrakech you will be met at Menara airport and transferred to Riad Africa
, your accommodation in the heart of Marrakech medina. A first category and fully licensed ‘Maison d’hôte’, Riad Africa is located in a safe and peaceful residential neighbourhood in the Riad Zitoun Lakdim area of the medina.
Offering easy access (just a 2 minute walk from the taxi stand and bank) it takes just 5 minutes to walk to the bustling Djemaa el Fna square
along the popular/easy to navigate Riad Zitoun Lakdim street. An excellent choice of local restaurants, cafes and shops is located within a 5 minute radius on foot, including the highly rated and atmospheric Kosybar.
Eight spacious bedrooms and suites are themed after Africa’s most evocative and fabled destinations. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, iPod docks, a local mobile phone (for contact with riad staff when out and about), bath robes/slippers, a hair-dryer and personal safe. High speed wireless internet access is available throughout the riad.
Guests can cool off in and relax around one of the largest plunge pools in the medina. A tranquil palm-filled courtyard, a comfortable dining room/salon, a massage room, hammam, evening bar and private roof garden/terrace offer a choice of public areas in which to unwind. For first time visitors to the medina of Marrakech, a great way of getting to grips with this magical city is on a guided sightseeing tour (included). The famous souks of Marrakech offer an intoxicating passage to Africa’s most famous meeting place - the huge medieval square of Djemaa el Fna. Here at the heart of the old city acrobats and jugglers, snake charmers, beggars, boxers, musicians, fresh juice and food sellers all compete for your attention - and a few dirham’s in the process.
It is easy to spend several hours wandering the square, sipping mint tea and savouring the utter assault on your senses. As night falls take a seat in one of the restaurants that overlook the square and watch the scene unfold. With the conflicting sounds from musicians and singers, and thousands of tiny white lights illuminating swirling smoke rising from food stalls, expect a night you’ll never forget! Day 2 - Day Hike in Toubkal National Park
Nestled in the tranquil foothills of the High Atlas Mountains in the heart of the Toubkal National Park is the pretty Berber village of Ouirgane. Wonderful views of the Toubkal range, walking, horse-riding, mountain biking, a wide variety of birdlife and a fresh and invigorating altitude of 1,000 metres await the traveller who makes it here. Ouirgane is only a one hour drive from Marrakech and is located on the valley floor of the Oued ‘River’ Nfis.
Allowing you the flexibility to stop where and when you want en route, accompanied by your own personal local guide and driver, this High Atlas trip to Ouirgane Valley will take you from the walls of the ‘Red City’ to the High Atlas hamlet of Ouirgane. En route you’ll make a stop at the busy little town of Asni which is a buzz of activity as local Berbers ply to sell their produce, particularly on Saturdays – market day.
Once in Ouirgane there are several hiking circuits offer options for people of all abilities, from an hour’s stroll along village tracks, past typical Berber houses, farms and fields, to more challenging walks through the valley and along the river and other villages.
Day 3 - Balloon flight
Take to the skies to enjoy a balloon flight close to the Imperial Red City with Maurice, the founder of Sky of Africa. You'll be in safe hands with Maurice, a very experienced pilot and aviation fanatic, who'll show
you the beauty of Morocco's dramatic landscapes against a backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. Just
one hour from the legendary Djemaa el Fna square, a hot air balloon becomes a time machine:
as you fly over the countryside discover the amazing contrast that exists between the town and
the surrounding countryside.
Departing early in the morning, around 0500 or 0600 (depending on season). For aero logical reasons, the flights always occur very early in the morning, you will be transfered by 4x4 to the place of take-off.
Enjoy a approximately one hour flight according to weather conditions before returning by off-road tracks and arriving back at Riad Africa around midday.
Day 4 - Quad bike or buggy in the Ourika Valley
A great taster for those seeking an unusual activity close to Marrakech, this half day self-drive buggy adventure dips into rural Morocco to reveal the beautiful and contrasting landscapes of the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. This is a truly off-the-beaten-track experience, supervised and operated by an expert local company.
Driving dirt tracks you will discover the beauty of the Ourika Valley with the spectacular backdrop of the High Atlas. Passing through several Berber villages you’ll see Henna mills and cross a small wadi. There’s also time for a break en route to pause for a glass of mint tea with the locals.
Day 5 - Transfer to Airport
Your short holiday ends today with a transfer to Marrakech airport.
